Basic Chat Room Etiquette
Chat rooms are basically the same in virtually any part of the world that one travels to. Like emails, there are rules that people in general have to follow in order to avoid making enemies of other players in the chatroom.
While most of the rules are common sense, some people still make the mistake of typing with caps-lock on which is tantamount to shouting in a verbal conversation. Not only is it rude but it is also seen as a person who has no manners whatsoever for if a person can appear rude online, what more in person? Like any conversation, the use of profane words and topics would only more discourage people from talking with you.
When chatting, one is not sure if the other chatters are from the same country as one is or from another. It therefore becomes a priority to speak in words and use terms that are easy and simple to understand.
This is again, the use of common sense in any mode of communication. One cant really use slang words when talking to someone from the other part of the globe.
Anonymity may be great but it only lasts for a short time. People who want to establish relationships with other bettors or players eventually have to reveal themselves. If the players insist on hiding their identity, then it is a sign of not being trustworthy.
Avoid jumping into the chat is encouraged and encouraged again. Many players delve into the chatroom not being aware of what the topics really is and end up getting banned or booted out of the chatroom. The rooms are normally set up reflect a specific topic and nothing else. There may be occasional side topics but the main idea of the room is to discuss the current topic at hand.
Flaming or attacking some one or someone's opinion is not advised because it just shows how little disregard one has for the chatroom. Being angry about something that seeks to damage ones credibility is accepted but should be defended within careful limits. The chat room is intended to be used as a means of communication where in information is exchanged and not as a means to vent personal feelings towards other people.
Everyone is entitles to their 2 cents worth but going overboard is not advised.
Chat rooms are the norm nowadays and people use it almost everytime in work so it becomes almost second nature to us. People should realize that any breach of etiquette can make one persona non grata anywhere else.
